As the year comes to an end, we all start to think about what our New Year’s resolutions will be.  Our first resolution is to get in shape. Cook’s Air wants to remind you of another healthy resolution, air quality in our home or business.

A clean and maintained HVAC is an important part of your health as well, that is why adding a maintenance schedule of year-round tasks will help improve not only its performance and efficiency but also the quality of the air you breathe in your residence or workplace.

January

Here is a quick guide to help you keep your air conditioner and heating unit run smoothly for the month of January.

  • Do not block or close your air registers or grilles. Inspect them to make sure they are clean.
  • Change your air filter. You can purchase disposable air filters at your local hardware store or grocers. Make sure to replace it with the correct one. Clean reusable filters by following the manufacturer’s instructions. Always make sure the filter is completely dry before returning it to the filter vent.
  • Make sure that there are no items near or stored next to the furnace, this can cause a fire.

Do not ever close more than 20% of the HVAC vents, this may be tempting if you have many unused vents but the better solution might be to invest in a system that would allow you to zone off the air and help increase performance. Work with a trusted HVAC contractor such as Cook’s Air, they will help you design and install a zoning system for your home or business.
